I read about the idea of “earthing” a few years ago. Simply, grounding our bodies by exposing our bare feet on the earth whether it be grass, sand, dirt or cement. Something we did much more before Famous Footwear and other shoe stores. We made shoes out of leather to protect our feet while hunting and exploring new lands. Leather turned turned to rubber and plastic, and now many of our feet rarely touch the ground without being separated by insulation. Our bodies being energy and having an electric field, they need to be grounded every now and then. Studies have shown health benefits such as better sleep, less inflammation, and a balancing out of our parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems.
The earth is also a living, breathing organism with its own magnetized electrical field. It supplies our food and water, the essence of our existence and only reason we’re here…. perhaps a little woo-woo, but strengthening the fact we certainly have a connection to the planet.
By “earthing” we can accumulate a refreshed charge to the surface of our red blood cells. This spreads out the cells from one another, thinning the blood and allowing it to flow better lowering blood pressure. Better circulation means more oxygen to every part of our bodies.
Find a park, a beach, a backyard. Let’s kick off our shoes, our sandals and boots. Five to ten minutes a day can have amazing benefits. Sit in a lawn chair with feet flat on the ground or walk around. Try to feel the energy flowing, perhaps a slight tingling sensation. Start earthing! Watch out for dog poop!
